What Accounts for Half of Deaths Registered in Armenia?

Throughout the history of the Third Republic, half of the deaths registered in Armenia are related to diseases of the circulatory system. In 1990, 10,843 people died from these diseases, and by 2021, this figure had increased by more than 50 percent, with 16,589 deaths recorded in one year. Leading causes of death include ischemic heart disease and other cardiovascular conditions, according to the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia.

Under the Stent for Life program, from December 16, 2021, to December 15, 2022, a total of 2,443 services were provided. The program offers free placement of drug-eluting stents in cases of acute myocardial infarction and provides favorable terms for aorto-coronary bypass surgery.

The organization of urgent cardiac surgeries is carried out within 12 hours of clinical manifestations of ischemia symptoms, including the time taken to confirm the diagnosis and transfer the patient to a medical institution. The program is implemented in 13 medical facilities across Armenia.
