The Guardian Discusses Khachanov's Supportive Messages for Artsakh

Russian tennis player Karen Khachanov, who has Armenian roots, appeared in the British newspaper The Guardian for his messages such as, 'Stay strong, Artsakh' and 'Keep believing until the end, stay strong, Artsakh.'

The publication notes that the athlete's messages regarding the besieged Artsakh have gained attention no less than his performance on the court.

It is mentioned that Khachanov's father, Abgar, is from Yerevan. 'I have Armenian roots. On my father's side, my grandfather, even on my mother's side. I am half Armenian. I don't want to delve deeper; I just wanted to express strength and support for my people,' Khachanov commented on his actions.

The Guardian states, 'Khachanov's support sheds additional light on the territorial conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which has been ongoing for over 30 years. The latest major conflict, the 44-day war, happened in 2020, resulting in the deaths of 6,800 soldiers.'

The article also recalls the blockade of the Lachin corridor, the only road connecting Artsakh to Armenia, as well as the presence of Russian peacekeepers there.

On Tuesday, the Azerbaijan Tennis Federation sent a letter to the International Tennis Federation demanding punishment for Khachanov for his message, although Khachanov did not mention Azerbaijan in any of his messages.
