Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has received Toivo Klaar, the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Georgia crisis. The meeting was also attended by Andrea Victorin, the head of the EU Delegation to Armenia. The participants discussed the current situation in the region as well as issues related to Armenia-EU cooperation.
The decision to deploy a new European Union civilian mission along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border was emphasized, which will contribute to stability and security in the region. The conversation also touched upon the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh resulting from the blockade of the Lachin corridor.
Prime Minister Pashinyan highlighted that the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh is deteriorating day by day, with schools and kindergartens closed and healthcare facilities facing severe shortages of medicines and encountering serious problems. Additionally, Azerbaijan has ceased natural gas supplies to Nagorno-Karabakh, and there are also issues with electricity supply.
Emphasizing the need for a timely international response to the situation, Nikol Pashinyan expressed satisfaction with the recent resolutions adopted by the European Parliament.
Toivo Klaar expressed concern over the blockade of the Lachin corridor and underscored the necessity for the unhindered operation of the corridor. He stated that the EU is vested in ensuring stability and peace in the region and will continue to contribute to the resolution of this issue.
The parties exchanged views on the deployment process of the new EU civilian mission and the progress of Armenia-EU joint programs related to ongoing institutional reforms in Armenia.
