Islamists Attempt to Storm Swedish Consulate in Turkey
Protests continue in Turkey against the burning of the holy book of Muslims, the Quran, in Sweden. A group of Islamists gathered near the Swedish consulate in the Beyoğlu Asmalımescit neighborhood of Istanbul, where they began to glorify Allah and chant various Islamic slogans. From this group, two Islamists broke through a police barrier and smashed the consulate's entrance sign. They were removed from the scene by police intervention.
Reports indicate that this group is allegedly a member of the radical 'Islamic Great Eastern Raiders Front' (IBDA-C). A similar protest was also held in the capital, Ankara, where demonstrators burned the Swedish flag and threatened to 'cut off the hand of anyone who gestures against Islam.'
It is worth noting that Danish anti-Islam activist Rasmus Paludan burned the Islamic holy book near the Turkish embassy in Stockholm on January 21, triggering protests in Turkey.
