Iran to Designate EU Countries' Armies as Terrorist Groups, Ghalibaf

Iran will take immediate and serious actions in response to the decision to include the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) on the list of terrorist organizations or sanctions. This was stated by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, as reported by IRNA.

"If actions are taken against the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, Iran will recognize the armies of EU countries in the region as terrorist groups," Ghalibaf said. He emphasized that Iran is prepared to respond accordingly.

"We call on Western countries to think carefully about the issue of closing the window of diplomacy. They cannot claim to keep the doors of negotiation open on one hand, while officially opposing the political structure and identity that belongs to the Iranian people on the other," Ghalibaf added.

On January 19, the European Parliament approved a resolution urging the EU leadership to include the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps in the list of terrorist organizations due to alleged terrorist activities, the repression of protesters, and supplying drones to Russia.

In response, Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian referred to this intention of the European Parliament as an "act of shooting oneself in the foot" during a phone conversation with European diplomacy chief Josep Borrell.
