EU Foreign Ministers Approve Establishment of Civil Mission in Armenia: Borrell

The website of the EU Council reports that EU Foreign Ministers have today approved the establishment of a civil mission in Armenia aimed at promoting stability in the South Caucasus, initiated by France.

The mission's objective will be to enhance confidence in the border regions of Armenia and to create conditions for the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The mandate for this mission is planned for a duration of two years.

The decision has also been commented on by the EU's High Representative Josep Borrell, who emphasized that the establishment of the EU mission in Armenia signifies a new phase of EU engagement in the South Caucasus.

"The EU will continue to support efforts to de-escalate tensions and work with both sides with the ultimate goal of establishing lasting peace in the region," the official stated.
