Death Toll from Avalanche in China Reaches 28
The death toll from an avalanche near a road tunnel in the autonomous region of Tibet, southwest China, has reached 28, as reported by China Central Television. Earlier reports from the channel indicated 20 fatalities and eight missing persons.
The search and rescue operations concluded on Friday evening. The avalanche occurred on Tuesday evening near the city of Ninch.
Rescuers believe that strong winds and rising temperatures in the region may have contributed to the disaster. Over a thousand individuals were involved in the rescue efforts.
