Serj Sargsyan's Lawyer Questions If Nikol Pashinyan Pays Utility Bills Amid Prosecutor's Investigation

Today, a lawsuit concerning Serj Sargsyan, Anush Minasyan, and Satenik Sargsyan regarding the confiscation of assets of illegal origin was heard in court. Amram Makiynan, the lawyer of the third President of Armenia, remarked on the prosecution’s previous hypotheses regarding Sargsyan's assets, stating, “We are not going to ground anything on the hypothesis of insanity.”

“The Prosecutor's Office says that all funds earned in 1991 have disappeared and notes, ‘We operate under that hypothesis’, and we respond, ‘We are not going to support anything based on a hypothesis of insanity,’” he said. “We have raised objections about the extreme illegality of this process to the Prosecutor's Office. When this government, on October 7, 2020, was in such a difficult situation, facing battles at the borders of the Republic of Artsakh, they started a disgracefully illegal process for the confiscation of assets of illegal origin against the third President of Armenia. At that time, when this process began, there were no grounds under that same illegal law for making such a decision; there are actual data showing that during the period when the investigation started, no assets were discovered under the name of Serj Sargsyan.”

According to the lawyer, the laws being written must not only be legal but also moral: “I see quite a contradiction with morality when they expect us to explain the expenses of the late lady. How can they inquire about the expenses of the deceased from the living?”

In response to a clarifying question on whether there were any funds or assets in connection with the third president, Makiynan confirmed, “Yes.”

Addressing the assessment of the property of the third president's daughter, Satenik Sargsyan, Makiynan stated that it concerns a house where Satenik Sargsyan lives with her family until today. “What have the state bodies of the Republic of Armenia decided to evict a person from their residence without actual evidence?” he questioned.

He added that the prosecutor also discusses utility expenses: “If this process were investigated normally rather than on commission, they would see that the third President of the Republic of Armenia has lived in government residences from 1993 to 2018. There are no utility costs here. A question arose for me: Does Nikol Pashinyan pay utility bills?”
