IAEA Sends Mission to Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant

IAEA Sends Mission to Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, announced on Wednesday that agency experts have begun work at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

“The IAEA continues to expand its presence in Ukraine. Today, I launched the IAEA’s assistance mission to Chernobyl,” Grossi wrote on Twitter.

He noted that the organization’s specialists will be at Ukrainian nuclear facilities to “ensure nuclear safety, which is very important, as well as provide support during these extremely difficult times.”

Earlier, the IAEA had reported that Grossi would visit several nuclear plants in Ukraine this week. On January 17, Grossi announced that the IAEA experts’ mission had started operations at the Southern Ukraine NPP. He then added that “soon the IAEA missions will be permanently present at all nuclear plants in Ukraine.”
