Demand for Suren Papikyan's Resignation is Unjustified, Says QP MP
Currently, the demand for the resignation of the Minister of Defense is neither justified nor substantiated. This was stated by Armen Khachatryan, a member of the Civil Contract faction in the National Assembly of Armenia, in an interview with Civic.am, addressing the tragic incident that occurred at the barracks of the engineering units of the Ministry of Defense.
“A minister's resignation can be demanded when an objective, multi-faceted assessment of their performance is provided. We evaluate Mr. Papikyan's work positively in several areas and believe that he still has much to accomplish as Minister of Defense, particularly in terms of army reorganization, reforms, and other directions. Additionally, a criminal investigation has been initiated in connection with the case, within which a comprehensive, objective, and thorough inquiry will be conducted. All circumstances requiring clarification will be identified, including the reasons for the incident, the accountability of those responsible, and necessary legal actions will be taken against the perpetrators,” Khachatryan stated.
“I believe everything must be done within the framework of the law and in a legal context. I also understand the emotional state surrounding this issue; it was expected that such statements and demands would arise, but we must remain within the bounds of rationality, as this matter pertains to the Armenian army. I repeat, I consider the demand for Papikyan's resignation to be unjustified,” Khachatryan added.
