Armenia Has Time to Prepare for Long-Term Confrontation: Hakobyan
The President of Nagorno-Karabakh, Arayik Harutyunyan, should have prevented the division of spheres of influence between him and Prime Minister Ruben Vardanyan. Both can be criticized for allowing this to occur. This was stated by Sos Hakobyan, press secretary of the "Homeland" party, during a discussion held on January 17.
He deemed the conduct of elections in Nagorno-Karabakh unacceptable, as it would signal the start of the process of dismantling the state system. According to him, time is needed to assess Vardanyan's activities. "I believe that the authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia should engage more in actions rather than sitting on social media," Hakobyan emphasized.
In his opinion, the Lachin corridor will not be easily reopened. He called for readiness for a long-term confrontation, warning that any concessions could lead to irreversible consequences. The spokesperson of the "Homeland" party noted that there is dissatisfaction with the Russian peacekeepers, as everything is not as it should be. "But we understand that life rights are somewhat secured in Nagorno-Karabakh. Armenia has time to prepare for long-term confrontation, seek solutions, and consider regime change," said Sos Hakobyan. He named regime change as the primary issue for the opposition.
The press secretary of the "Homeland" party believes that the Armenian authorities are doing nothing to deter the risks of new aggression from Azerbaijan. "Has Armenia gained new allies? Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his team are actively trying to push Russia out of the South Caucasus," he added.
Hakobyan expressed skepticism that an alternative to Russia is a geopolitical force for Armenia today. "If official Yerevan wishes to get closer to Ankara, it will lead to the occupation of Armenia by Turkey, as Turkey has been the patron during the aggression against Nagorno-Karabakh in the 44-day war," he concluded.
It is noteworthy that the "Homeland" party is led by Arthur Vanetsyan, the former director of Armenia's National Security Service.
