The U.S. Will Never Help Armenia Against Azerbaijan and Turkey, Turkish Expert

Turkish expert Varoujan Geghamyan's comment:   “The interests of the U.S. in Azerbaijan or a scholarship for language studies. Like any serious state, the United States systematically ensures that its national interests are defended by the best-trained and capable human resources. The professional training of these resources is not left to the shoulders of volunteers or amateur groups but is carried out by state mechanisms and programs through fundamental institutional work.

For instance, let’s take the well-known, yet often misunderstood saying, ‘one must know the language of the enemy’, which is based on the issue of understanding the ‘language’— that is the language, culture, and politics—of an interesting nation or state, and this is also present in the U.S. The U.S. Department of State has a specific program, the Critical Language Scholarship, which enriches American university students with knowledge about foreign languages and the cultures of the people who speak them, which are vital for U.S. national security and economic welfare. There are 14 languages in this program— languages that are considered critically important; thus, the people and states that speak these languages relate to U.S. vital interests. These languages naturally include Russian, Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, and Persian.

Among the few thousand languages of the world, Turkish and Azerbaijani are included in the 14 most critical languages for U.S. interests. The reason is clear: Turkey is the U.S.'s main ally in the Middle East and one of the key states in the region. As for Azerbaijani, it is crucial for two reasons. First, for the U.S. and the West, Azerbaijan holds key importance as an alternative source of energy and a transit route away from Russia, thus the stability and strengthening of Azerbaijan corresponds to U.S. interests. The second reason relates to the fact that Azerbaijani is also spoken in northwestern Iran. The expansionist policies of Baku and Ankara towards Iran, where the primary target is the Iranian region of Azerbaijan, bordering directly on Armenia, receive open support from the U.S., Israel, the United Kingdom, and several other powers as a weakening factor against Iran.

These reasons make the necessity of training professionals fluent in Azerbaijani and in Azerbaijani political culture quite logical, which is precisely what the U.S. government focuses on. It is also pertinent to mention that the U.S. will never help Armenia in its struggle against Azerbaijan and Turkey because, in the Armenian-Turkish conflict, Baku and Ankara are key countries from the perspective of U.S. interests. For verification, one may refer to the works of American political thinkers or follow the actual policies being carried out, rather than the propaganda of various distorters.”
