Vehicle Registered under MP Anna Mkrtchyan's Name Involved in Hit-and-Run Incident Involving a Woman
Comments made in Anna Mkrtchyan's statement have no basis in reality. This was stated by Gohar Abrahamyan, the spokesperson for the chairman of the Investigative Committee, in a conversation with NEWS.am, responding to the statement made during MP Anna Mkrtchyan's live broadcast on Facebook that the Criminal Investigation Department followed her car on orders from Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
“The reality is that on January 10, 2023, at 08:05, a call was received from Astghik Medical Center reporting that a woman had sustained bodily injuries after a hit-and-run incident on Sherami Street in Yerevan. The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia initiated a criminal case in the investigative department of Yerevan under Article 342, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code, on the grounds of a crime being present. During the investigation, operational information was obtained indicating that the victim was hit by a vehicle of KIA brand with the corresponding registration number, and the driver fled the scene.
The investigating authority ordered that the aforementioned vehicle be transported to a specially protected area of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs. The investigation revealed that the vehicle with that registration number is registered under the name of an MP of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, and police officers carried out actions aimed at ensuring the execution of the given order,” said Gohar Abrahamyan.
When asked if the MP is suspected of committing the hit-and-run, the spokesperson for the Investigative Committee stated, “The investigation is still in the preliminary stage, and many circumstances of the case need to be verified and clarified, including the identification of the driver of the vehicle at the time of the incident. It is still very premature to speak about the existence of suspicion regarding a specific person.”
