Turkey Cancels Visit of Swedish Parliamentary Speaker Due to Kurdish Protest in Stockholm

Turkey has canceled the visit of Sweden's parliamentary speaker to the country due to a protest by the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) that took place in Stockholm. This is reported by RIA Novosti, citing diplomatic sources.

Earlier, a rally in support of the PKK occurred in Stockholm, during which several offensive expressions and gestures were directed toward Turkey's current President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The source revealed that the Swedish ambassador was summoned to Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to express a formal protest regarding the protest.

“The official visit of Swedish Parliamentary Speaker Andreas Norlén to Turkey scheduled for January 17 has been canceled by parliamentary speaker Mustafa Şentop,” the agency's interlocutor reported.
