Azerbaijani President Attempts to Create Grounds for Military Aggression Against Armenia and Artsakh with Fabricated Facts: Tatoyan

Former Human Rights Defender of Armenia Arman Tatoyan writes:

“The President of Azerbaijan, in his speech on January 10, 2023, promotes false theses. By blatantly distorting historical and legal facts, he refers to the territories of the Republic of Armenia as 'Western Azerbaijan' and mentions 'Western Azerbaijanis' in connection with this. This is part of his lie that 'Armenia is a country without value (...) artificially created on ancient Azerbaijani lands.'

The President of Azerbaijan is inciting anti-Armenian sentiments and animosity with this speech, attempting to create artificial grounds for military aggression against Armenia and Artsakh with fabricated facts.

In matters of state border delimitation, he openly threatens Armenia and the Armenian people with military aggression and war through the manipulation of facts. Distorted sections of the Azerbaijani President's speeches have been highlighted and formally communicated to the Human Rights and Justice Center 'Tatoyan' Foundation, the OSCE, the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the Council of Europe’s Committee on Racism and Intolerance, the UN and Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioners, and other international bodies.

The President of Azerbaijan speaks openly in the language of force and threat, using words and expressions that demean the dignity of the entire Armenian people and the population of Armenia and Artsakh, with a terror-inducing nature. The manifestations of fascism in his speeches, both this one and previous ones, are evident, emphasizing the superiority of one nation—the Azerbaijani nation—over the Armenian nation, inciting hatred, and then speaking of peace under such conditions.”
