Armenia and Artsakh Human Rights Defenders Publish Urgent Report on the Consequences of the Lachin Corridor Blockade

The human rights defender institutions of Armenia and Artsakh have released an urgent report on the humanitarian consequences of the blockade of the Lachin Corridor, with updated data as of January 13, 2023.

According to the Office of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, the report addresses the international community's response to the Lachin Corridor issue, including reactions from organizations, officials, and the media. It also discusses provocative statements made by senior Azerbaijani officials and public figures regarding the blockade of the Lachin Corridor, ongoing signs of ethnic cleansing by Azerbaijani elites, and the humanitarian crisis resulting from the blockade. New information supporting the fraudulent nature of the actions by 'Eco-activists' is also presented, alongside direct connections with individuals who unlawfully closed the road in coordination with the Azerbaijani government.

The report also highlights violations of rights related to freedom of movement, ensuring an adequate standard of living, access to food, the right to health protection, and the rights of children. Violations of rights are analyzed in various sections of the report according to the principles and norms of international human rights and humanitarian law.

According to the source, the defenders' conclusion is that an international fact-finding mission is necessary, among other things, to prevent further escalations of Azerbaijan's ethnic cleansing policies. In accordance with established practice, the report will be presented to organizations and actors with a mandate on human rights.
