New Details on the Incident of Throwing Explosives at the Vardenis Police Station
Criminal proceedings have been initiated under Article 264, Part 2, Clause 2 and Article 335, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, as an unidentified individual threw an explosive device near the entrance gate of the special protected area of the police department.
During the preliminary investigation, the scene was examined with the participation of an expert, and damages were documented. As a result of undertaken measures, several circumstances of the incident have been clarified, including the identity of the person suspected of committing the crime, who is a 58-year-old resident of the same city. He has been arrested based on the immediate suspicion and presented to the investigative division.
During the preliminary investigation, the clothing worn by the mentioned man was confiscated, samples of the explosive device were obtained, and his wife was interrogated as a witness regarding the circumstances of the incident. A relevant task has been assigned to the Gegharkunik regional division of the police.
Judicial expert examinations, construction-technical, forensic, and explosion-technical comprehensive examinations have been appointed, and criminalistic examinations have been assigned with the obtained samples and confiscated clothing.
Earlier, it was reported that on January 11, around 20:20, a report was received from the Vardenis police department regarding an unidentified person throwing an explosive device near the entrance gate of the special protected area, resulting in broken windows of the administrative building of the police department, damage to the roof and wall of the sanitary facility in the special protected area, as well as damage to the gate.
