Missing Persons Have Not Been Searched for a Long Time: Tovmasyan on Pashinyan's Statement
Approximately 200 individuals who are considered missing as a result of the 44-day war have not been subjected to search operations since January 2022. This was stated by the Chair of the Parliament's Standing Committee on Human Rights Protection and Public Affairs, independent MP Taguhi Tovmasyan, in an interview with the newspaper 'Zhoghovurd.'
Yesterday, during a press conference, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that search operations continue to clarify the locations of individuals considered missing as a result of the Azerbaijani provocation on September 13, 2022, and the 44-day war in 2020.
“I regret that the Prime Minister of the country is not aware of such important information or is feigning that he is addressing every issue. The search operations were halted by Azerbaijan's unilateral decision,” Tovmasyan stated.
She emphasized that this issue has been discussed multiple times with her colleagues from the International Committee of the Red Cross, and she has alerted various organizations and centers dealing with human rights around the world.
“As of today, there has been no positive movement. It would be better if the country's top official verified the appropriate information before preparing for the press conference; this is all rather unserious,” the MP noted.
Pashinyan also mentioned that the commission on prisoners and missing persons has been restructured under the leadership of the Director of the NSS, and they are working until the issue is resolved.
