New Restrictions Imposed on Women in Afghanistan

The Afghan government, formed by members of the Taliban movement, has set a 10-day deadline for the closure of women’s beauty salons and prohibited women from working in shopping centers. According to reports from Al Arabiya, citing sources, the Taliban government has mandated this closure.

Sources also indicated that Afghan authorities have ordered a ban on women working in shopping centers. Previously, the Taliban had ordered all local and international non-governmental organizations operating in Afghanistan to cease the employment of female staff.

Afghan media also report that the Taliban government's Ministry of Higher Education has instructed to halt the education of female students in both private and public universities in Afghanistan. The Minister of Education stated that education for girls in secular universities contradicts Islamic laws and traditions.
