Armenia Also Has Concerns About Armenian Enclaves Remaining in Azerbaijan, Says Pashinyan
Armenia also has concerns regarding the Armenian villages remaining in Azerbaijan, known as enclaves. This was stated today by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a press conference in response to Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov's comments about handing over eight Armenian villages to Azerbaijan as part of border demarcation.
“There are many issues that need to be resolved in the delimitation process. We also have the topic of enclaves—there is Artsvashen, after all, which is a part of the sovereign territory of Armenia and is currently under Azerbaijan's control,” Pashinyan said, adding that such topics are used by Azerbaijan to exert psychological pressure on the Armenian public.
Pashinyan also reminded that since the 1990s, there have been numerous territories occupied by Azerbaijan within Armenia. “For example, most of the areas of Paravakar village in Tavush province are occupied. For instance, from the villages of Vazashen, Berkaber, and Aygehovit,” Pashinyan stated, asserting that the resolution of these issues will be discussed within the framework of the delimitation process, thus there is no need to create a panic atmosphere around them.
In response to a question about whether Russian peacekeepers will be replaced by an international multinational contingent in 2025, the Armenian Prime Minister emphasized that the main objective for the Armenian side is to ensure the safety of the Armenian population in Artsakh, for which the most effective measures must be taken.
