Six Patients in Critical Condition at Stepanakert Medical Center

The hospitals in Artsakh continue to postpone scheduled surgeries. The corridor connecting Artsakh to Armenia is closed, leading to a significant shortage of medicines and medical supplies.

The director of the Stepanakert Republican Medical Center, Mher Musayelyan, stated that the blockade has not affected the quality of services but has posed difficulties. "The only difficulties we all know about are that we have suspended scheduled surgeries, solely to redirect those reserve materials to patients who are in need of more urgent cases," he remarked.

Currently, 91 citizens are receiving treatment at the Republican Medical Center. Thirteen of them are in the intensive care unit, with six in critical condition. During the festive days, the emergency department operated under high pressure.

"We performed 13 surgeries, all under acute indications, and it can be said that during these days, the number of our patients has not dropped below 90, and the number in the intensive care unit fluctuates between 10-13," Musayelyan highlighted.

Following the closure of the corridor, the International Committee of the Red Cross transferred 17 patients from Artsakh and provided humanitarian assistance in the form of medications. According to the director of the children's hospital, this is insufficient even to resume laboratory scheduled procedures.

The director of Stepanakert's Arevik Medical Center, Karen Melkumyan, stated that all planned procedures have been suspended—both laboratory, outpatient, and surgical, focusing only on urgent care for children in critical condition.

Among the children receiving treatment at the children's hospital, 13 are in the neonatal and intensive care units. They are trying to fill the absence of certain specialists with the help of colleagues from Armenia.

"We are trying to resolve all issues through online platforms, and we are in online communication with all relevant specialists who are needed at that moment in the hospital," Melkumyan mentioned.

The health condition of a young patient diagnosed with visceral leishmaniasis, transferred from Stepanakert to Yerevan, is stable, with positive dynamics, according to Karen Melkumyan.
