Action of Artsakh Mothers in Front of the Red Cross
A peaceful demonstration has been held in front of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) office in Artsakh, initiated by mothers from the region. The mothers appealed and called on the Red Cross to fully perform its internationally mandated functions, after which they delivered a letter on behalf of the Artsakh Mothers' Club to the head of the ICRC mission in Nagorno-Karabakh.
The letter states: “We, the mothers of Artsakh, have been surviving for almost a month under the total blockade imposed by Azerbaijan, and we have exhausted ourselves psychologically and have used all our resources. Our children are undernourished, and we are horrified by the thought that a child might fall ill, as a number of essential medicines are completely absent. Many mothers of children who consume formula milk are terrified every day as they go from pharmacy to pharmacy and find no formula available.
Today, our children should have gone to kindergarten and school, but they are standing here with us in this cold in front of your office because several public educational institutions have closed due to food shortages, and among other fundamental rights, they are deprived of their right to receive education.
Some of them have been away from their parents for a month already and don’t even know when they will have the opportunity to hug their mothers and fathers again...
We appreciate all the efforts the Red Cross has made so far to alleviate this crisis and thank you for your compassion. However, unfortunately, these efforts are not sufficient in the face of the escalating situation, and the disaster is increasingly worsening. Therefore, we plead and call upon you, as the most influential humanitarian organization in the world, to mobilize all your connections, resources, and efforts to address at least the humanitarian aspect of this crisis.
Your slogan is: ‘Humanitarian aid during wartime,’ but is it a more brutal war than this...?
