UK Parliament Officials on the Closure of the Lachin Corridor
The international community has regrettably failed to halt Azerbaijan's ongoing terrorist war, which has been unleashed against the Armenians living in Nagorno-Karabakh, a region that was historically part of Armenia and handed over to Azerbaijan by Stalin, through a medieval-style blockade.
This statement has been issued by members of the House of Lords in the UK Parliament, including Baroness Caroline Cox, Lord Alton of Liverpool, former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Rowan Williams, Bishop of Coventry Christopher Cocksworth, President of the International Christian Solidarity organization Dr. John Eibner, and MP Tim Loughton.
The authors of the letter note that the closure of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan has led to a severe shortage of essential supplies, resulting in deaths in Armenia due to lack of access to medical care.
“According to international law, there is a responsibility to foresee and prevent genocide, protect victims, and punish the aggressor. Despite the condemnations from bodies such as the UN Security Council, UNICEF, and other international organizations, there continues to be a de facto silence in the media regarding Azerbaijan's atrocities, which allows Azerbaijan to continue developing its genocidal policies with impunity,” the letter states.
The authors of the letter call on international leaders to “immediately address this horrific tragedy.”
“We hope that brave and seasoned journalists will shed light on the suffering of a people that, unfortunately, knows all too well the nature of genocidal crimes,” the letter concludes.
