Israeli Minister's Visit to Temple Mount is Provocative, Erdoğan

Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has described the visit of Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir to the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem as provocative. He made this statement during a phone conversation with Israel's new Foreign Minister Eli Cohen on Wednesday, according to Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as reported by TASS.

Çavuşoğlu reminded that the Palestinian issue is sensitive for Turkey and emphasized that Minister Ben Gvir's provocations against Al-Aqsa yesterday are unacceptable, according to the statement.

The Jerusalem Post previously reported that the Israeli National Security Minister ascended the Temple Mount on Tuesday. Former Prime Minister and Yesh Atid party leader Yair Lapid warned that actions like Ben Gvir's would escalate tensions in Jerusalem. According to the newspaper, the politician's visit to the Temple Mount was coordinated with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
