Germany Refuses to Negotiate with Poland on Compensation for Damages

The German government has refused to negotiate with Poland regarding compensation for damages caused during World War II. This was announced by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the German government, the issue of compensation for the damages inflicted on Poland during World War II is considered closed, and the German government does not intend to start negotiations on this matter, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a communiqué.

The statement mentions that “the note from the German government was received on January 3.” Polish authorities emphasized in the press release that they will continue efforts to recover losses incurred during the German occupation from 1939 to 1945.

It is noteworthy that on September 1, Polish authorities presented a three-volume report prepared by the republic's experts on the losses suffered by Poland due to the assault and German occupation from 1939 to 1945. The total amount claimed was approximately $1.3 to $1.5 trillion.
