Michelle Obama Admits: 'I Couldn't Stand My Husband for 10 Years'

Former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, has confessed that there was a time in her marriage when she "couldn't stand" her husband, Barack Obama. This period, according to her, coincided with the early years of their daughters, Sasha and Malia.

As reported by the Daily Mail, 58-year-old Michelle Obama shared that the couple's relationship was very tense during this time, as they were both trying to advance in their careers, particularly Barack, who was on the path to becoming president.

The article elaborates that 24-year-old Malia and 21-year-old Sasha were seven and ten years old, respectively, when their family moved into the White House following Barack's election as president.

Michelle opened up about her relationship with her 61-year-old husband while promoting her new book, "The Light We Carry." "There were ten years when I couldn't stand my husband. And guess when that was? When the kids were small. Ten years while we were trying to build our careers and worrying about school and what the kids were doing," said the first African American First Lady in U.S. history.

She added, "Marriage is never 50/50, ever. There are times when I’m 70 and he’s 30. There are times when he’s 60 and I’m 40. But imagine, ten years. We’ve been married for 30 years. I’d take ten bad years out of that 30. People give up and say, ‘five years, I can’t take it.'"

Michelle also noted that despite their disagreements, she has always respected her husband. "So you can be mad at him, but you still look at him and say, ‘I’m not happy with you, but I respect you. I don’t agree with you, but you continue to be a good, smart person. Over time, feelings change,'" she concluded.
