Benjamin Netanyahu Becomes Prime Minister of Israel for the Third Time

The Knesset of Israel has expressed confidence in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's new government, according to the Times of Israel.

“Confidence in the government has been confirmed by 63 of the 64 coalition members, which constitutes a majority in the 120-seat Knesset,” the publication reported.

On Monday, according to Haaretz, Netanyahu informed the president that he had managed to form a government. Subsequently, the Jerusalem Post, citing messages sent by Netanyahu to members of parliament, reported that “the new government will be ratified by the Knesset and will officially assume power today.”

As a result of the November 1 early elections for the 25th Knesset, Netanyahu's Likud party came in first, led by the 73-year-old politician. This election marked the fifth round in the last three and a half years. However, during this period, no winning party was able to create a viable government based on a parliamentary majority.

Following the results of the 25th Knesset elections, President Isaac Herzog tasked Netanyahu with forming a new government. The mandate was initially set to expire on December 11, but Herzog later extended it by ten days. Netanyahu previously served as Prime Minister of Israel from 1996 to 1999 and from 2009 to 2021.
