Wi-Fi Device and 11 Drug Packages Found During Search of Doctor Entering Nubarashen Prison

On December 23, 2022, at 15:40, officers from the operational department of the General Department of Prisons of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, acting on received operational data, conducted a search of doctor M.N. from the 'Vardashen' and 'Nubarashen' medical units of the Penitentiary Medical Center as he was entering the ‘Nubarashen’ penitentiary, together with officers from the operational departments of the Penitentiaries.

During the search, a prohibited Wi-Fi device belonging to M.N. was discovered, which upon examination contained 11 packages resembling heroin and methamphetamine, weighing 22 grams and 12.4 grams respectively, as well as 3.1 grams resembling an opiate and 65 grams resembling marijuana. The mentioned drugs were intended to be smuggled to a prisoner in the penitentiary.

M.N. was arrested by the officers of the operational department of the Nubarashen penitentiary and subsequently presented to the investigative division of the Investigative Committee of Armenia for the administrative districts of Erebuni and Nubarashen.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 393, Part 3, Point 2 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. On December 25, a request was submitted to the court to apply detention as a preventive measure against doctor M.N.
