More than 50 People Poisoned by Ammonia After Train Accident in Serbia

On December 25, a train carrying ammonia derailed in southeastern Serbia. The accident resulted in over 50 people being poisoned, according to reports by Agence France-Presse citing local authorities.

The mayor of the town of Pirot, Vladan Vasic, stated that there have been "51 cases of poisoning" due to the ammonia leak. "Seven individuals have been transferred to one of the hospitals in the city of Niš," the mayor added.

The Serbian police reported that the train derailed in the evening, causing the ammonia leak and releasing a large quantity of gas into the atmosphere. Authorities are advising local residents to remain indoors.
