Azerbaijani Proposals Will Create Basis for Legal Document, Lavrov Says After Meeting with Bayramov
Azerbaijan's proposals for signing a peace treaty with Armenia will help lay the groundwork for a legal document, stated Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a joint press conference with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.
According to Lavrov, everything must be done now to establish a peace treaty. “During the negotiations, we addressed the topic of the peace treaty, and we must do everything possible to bring the positions of the parties closer together. Azerbaijani proposals will serve as a basis for a legal document,” emphasized Lavrov.
He noted that Russia, like no one else, is interested in peaceful and just coexistence between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The Russian Foreign Minister also added that Russian peacekeepers are working around the clock to stabilize the situation in the Lachin corridor and are in contact with each of the parties.
During his remarks, Lavrov also mentioned that a meeting of the South Caucasus 3+3 platform could take place in the near future. The parties are currently coordinating new contacts at the ministerial level.
