Greece Closes Airspace to Aircraft from Belarus
Greece has closed its airspace to aircraft coming from Belarus and banned flights into its territory. This was reported by РБК.
“The EU advises foreign carriers to avoid the Minsk flight information region (Belarus),” said the Greek Civil Aviation Authority.
The published document states that Greek carriers and aircraft captains must not operate flights within the Belarusian flight information region, except when the use of the Republic’s airspace “is deemed necessary to ensure safe operations under unforeseen circumstances.”
Belarusian aircraft are banned from landing in the territory of the Hellenic Republic, taking off from there, or flying over it. Exceptions are made for emergency situations, as well as for humanitarian and medical flights.
Journalists have explained that the Greek authorities’ decision is related to concerns regarding Belarus's possible involvement in military operations in Ukraine.
