Who Owns the British Company Eyeing Artsakh's Resources: Hetq

Despite being founded in September 2004 in London, where it is still legally registered, the operations of Anglo Asian Mining are based in Baku. Moreover, until January of this year, the British company exclusively focused on mining activities in Azerbaijan, as reported by Hetq.am.

The point is that in January of this year, Anglo Asian Mining completed a transaction to acquire a 19.8% stake in the Canadian Libero Copper & Gold Corporation, which is exploring copper-molybdenum and copper-gold deposits in Colombia, Canada, and Argentina.

As of September 20, 2022, 43% of Anglo Asian Mining’s shares are concentrated in the hands of its directors and associated individuals. The main shareholder is 69-year-old Mohammad Reza Vaziri, who holds 28.67%. He is also the president and CEO of the company.

Vaziri was a high-ranking official in Iran until the 1979 Islamic Revolution that deposed the country's Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Vaziri was among those affected by the revolution, later establishing roots in the USA, the UK, and Azerbaijan—countries that currently have, to say the least, non-friendly relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Another major shareholder of the British company, holding 9.38%, is 83-year-old John Henry Sununu, who is also a non-executive director of the board. The Republican Sununu has Greek and Lebanese ancestry through his father and Greek and Spanish through his mother. He served as the Governor of New Hampshire from 1983 to 1989 and as Chief of Staff at the White House during George H.W. Bush's presidency from 1989 to 1991.
