The Prosecutor Overseeing the Assault Case of Ararat Mirzoyan Has a New Position

The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that the prosecutor overseeing the case of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan, who was assaulted, has received a new position. It has become known to the newspaper that Aram Aramyan has been relieved of his duties as the deputy head of the Department for the Oversight of Pre-Trial Proceedings at the National Security Service of Armenia and appointed as the Prosecutor of the Central District.

This transfer has placed those involved in the criminal case in a worse position, as individuals now holding the status of defendants are uncertain about what will happen to their criminal proceedings following this reassignment.

The case pertains to the assault on Ararat Mirzoyan by a large group of individuals in front of the National Assembly of Armenia on the morning of November 9, 2020. It is worth mentioning that the former Speaker of the National Assembly was hospitalized and underwent surgery as a result of the attack. Although two years have passed since the incident, those previously detained in connection with the case remain in custody.

During these two years, the preliminary investigation body has yet to identify and clarify who assaulted Mirzoyan on that day. The case has still not been sent to court.

Moreover, the prosecutor overseeing the assault case has received a new position. Is this a reflection of the perception of work efficiency in the Armenian Prosecutor's Office?
