CSTO Does Not Turn Its Back on Armenia's Issues, Says Zas

The CSTO is not planning to turn its back on Armenia. This was stated by CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas during a press conference at the Sputnik Armenia multimedia press center, responding to a question from Sputnik Armenia.

“Is the CSTO intending to somehow withdraw from Armenia or turn its back on it? Of course not. The steps we have taken this year—three times the leaders of the member states have gathered to discuss the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, and a CSTO mission has been sent to the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. In addition, a package of measures has been developed to assist Armenia,” Zas stated.

According to him, all necessary steps have been taken by the CSTO in the current situation.

Zas also noted that during his leadership of the mission in Armenia, questions arose from some high-ranking officials regarding why CSTO troops had not arrived in Armenia to help us “de-occupy territories,” and so on. However, he emphasized that it is essential to understand the potential consequences of such actions, which could lead to the outbreak of regional war involving several states. Therefore, he claimed, the proposals offered to the leaders of states have been adequate and well-considered.

Zas stressed that the CSTO does not turn its back on Armenia's issues; on the contrary.

It should be noted that earlier, the Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, announced that there is concern in Armenia that the Collective Security Treaty Organization may leave the region or has already left it, but Yerevan has not been informed about it.
