VIDEO: The International Community Will Not Have Peace of Mind, Says Artsakh Ombudsman
The head of the UN office in Armenia, who is also the director of UNICEF, should understand well that children living in Artsakh have been deprived of gas supply, heating, and hot water for two days. Videos have been circulated showing mothers struggling to bathe their children in warm water. This was stated by Artsakh Ombudsman Gegham Stepanyan in front of the UN office in Yerevan.
"It is regrettable that this situation has continued for the 5th day, yet we have not received a single comment from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. Everyone's rights are important, but personally, it pains me that where the topic of wearing a hijab becomes a matter for global discussion, there are thousands of statements on it, yet when the lives of 120,000 people are at stake, they cannot even give a single comment. The High Commissioner for Human Rights has this mandate, and let the head of the Armenian office come down and clarify whether they have been properly informed of all this. It is enough that we remain ignored by the world; it seems that Artsakh does not exist for the world, and this neglect must come to an end," said Gegham Stepanyan.
He mentioned that the international community's indifference makes Azerbaijan feel unpunished. "It is impossible to ensure any rights or security under Azerbaijan. We will continue to fight for our rights; the pressure must be multiplied, and the international community must feel that it will not have peace of mind until 120,000 people can live in peace," stated the Ombudsman of Artsakh.
