Baku Realized It Would Pay a High Price Under International Pressure: Beglaryan on Gas Supply Restoration

Today, Azerbaijan restored gas supply to Artsakh without any concessions from our side. This means that either they realized the empty and bad actions they took were primarily detrimental to themselves, or, which is much more likely, the international pressure has increased to the point where they must pay a high price, and therefore, they have made a concession. This statement was made by Artak Beglaryan, an advisor to the Prime Minister of Artsakh, during a sit-in in front of the UN office in Armenia today, December 16.

"This means that the entire Armenian population, first and foremost Armenia, must exert as much pressure as possible through international organizations and the media to resolve the issue of opening the road. This is our short-term issue, but we know that Azerbaijan will continually attempt such genocidal and terrorist actions and will constantly test our patience and the international community's response. Therefore, it is crucial that we continuously raise our voices, exert pressure for a proper international response from the global community," Beglaryan stated.

He presented the demands directed towards the international community, particularly the five permanent members of the UN Security Council. "Our short-term demand is to address our humanitarian issues within a few days, open the road, and also establish an air humanitarian corridor so that we have an alternative route, not only overland but also by air. In the longer term, we expect and demand that the Security Council of the UN discuss and resolve all matters regarding the security and rights of the people of Artsakh, as well as the resolution of the conflict in the future," Artak Beglaryan added.

He also announced that they will be submitting a written demand to the UN office in Armenia, which has already been formulated. "The UN Security Council and related UN bodies must be involved in Artsakh, meaning they should also have offices in Artsakh. The UN Security Council must provide international security guarantees to the people of Artsakh. How they will do this, including the composition of peacekeeping missions and what other political and military instruments will be used, they will determine. However, it is fundamental for us that the UN engages in the issues of security and rights protection for the people of Artsakh, which will ensure a stable and favorable environment for a just, long-term, and definitive resolution of the conflict, for which, of course, the principle of self-determination is the central axis," Beglaryan concluded.
