7 Horses Slaughtered and Sold to Citizen: Accountability to Follow
As a result of joint intensified monitoring measures by the Food Safety Inspectorate of the Republic of Armenia and the Police, a vehicle transporting meat without veterinary form 5 was halted today in the center of Alaverdi city, on the Alaverdi-Yerevan highway.
An investigation revealed that a resident of the Sahahan neighborhood of Alaverdi had slaughtered 7 horses and sold about 600 kg of meat to a resident of the Gyulagarak village in the Stepanavan region. The buyer claimed that he was transporting the meat for personal use; however, inspectors from the regional center of the Food Safety Inspectorate of Lori drafted reports concerning both the seller and the transporter, who will face administrative responsibility.
A directive has been issued to either dispose of or destroy the discovered horse meat within 10 days.
