Mother See's Statement on Azerbaijan's Provocation

The Mother See has issued a statement strongly condemning the provocations carried out by the Azerbaijani authorities.

“We firmly condemn the provocations carried out by the Azerbaijani authorities, specifically the blockade of the road connecting Artsakh to Armenia under the pretense of environmental concerns, which jeopardizes the vital rights of the people of Artsakh, placing them on the brink of a humanitarian disaster. Such provocative actions aim to implement ethnic cleansing, once again highlighting Azerbaijan's anti-Armenian policy. The current situation indisputably demonstrates that a secure life for the Armenians of Artsakh is impossible within Azerbaijan.

The Catholicos of All Armenians has already sent letters to the leaders of Sister Churches and international and inter-church organizations to respond to Azerbaijan's inhumane actions and to overcome the humanitarian crisis faced by the Armenians of Artsakh. The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin expects that the international community will provide an adequate assessment of Azerbaijan's provocations that violate fundamental human rights, significantly threatening the fragile peace and stability of the region.

We also urge Sheikh ul-Islam Allahshükür Pashazadeh, the head of the Caucasian Muslims Administration, to adhere to his humanitarian appeal and take tangible and concrete steps to eliminate Azerbaijani provocative actions. We pray that God keeps the land of Artsakh peaceful and safe under His protection, as one united and collective people,” the statement reads.
