How Much is Armenia's National Debt? Results of the Government's 9-Month Work

The newspaper "Joghavorut" reports that as of September 30, 2022, Armenia's national debt amounted to 4 billion 31 million drams or 9 million dollars. According to a report presented by the government, the indicators of Armenia's national debt expressed in Armenian drams and US dollars have changed disproportionately compared to the end of the previous year, decreasing by 9% and increasing by 7.7%, respectively.

This change was influenced by the difference in the dollar/dram exchange rates established at the end of 2021 and at the end of September 2022, which changed by 15.5%, from 480.14 to 405.93.

The increase in Armenia's national debt in US dollar terms is mainly due to an increase of 630 million dollars in the government's debt. The bulk of the external national debt consists of the government's obligations. The components of the government's external debt include external loans and borrowings, amounting to 1 billion 685 million drams, and state treasury bonds acquired by non-residents, totaling 44 billion drams.

As of September 30, 2022, Armenia's internal national debt increased by 298 billion drams (24.2%) compared to the end of the previous year, with its share in the structure of Armenia's national debt growing from 27.9% to 38.1%.
