Cyprus Calls on Azerbaijan to Immediately Restore Traffic and Energy Supply in Nagorno-Karabakh

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus has urged Azerbaijan to restore traffic and energy supply in Nagorno-Karabakh. This was stated in a statement released by the Cypriot MFA. The statement was also translated into Armenian and published on the social media page of the Armenian embassies in Greece, Cyprus, and Albania.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus is concerned about reports of disruptions in traffic along the Lachin corridor, which has led to the blockade of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh and disruptions in supply lines to the area. The concern is further compounded by reports of interruptions in the supply of natural gas,” the statement reads. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus calls on Azerbaijan to immediately restore traffic and energy supply in its entirety to avoid further deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the region.”

Since 10:30 AM on December 12, a group of Azerbaijanis, citing environmental reasons, has blocked a section of the Stepanakert-Goris highway near Shushi-Karin Tak. Hundreds of citizens, including minors, have been unable to return home. The transport links of the villages of Lisagor, Mets Shen, Hin Shen, and Yeghdzahogh in the Shushi region with the capital Stepanakert have been interrupted. Azerbaijan also halted gas supply to the Republic of Artsakh starting from December 13.
