At Least 5 Dead During Protests in Peru

At least 5 people have died as a result of protests and unrest following the change of president in Peru. The parliament had initiated impeachment proceedings against the former president, Pedro Castillo. The vice president, Dina Boluarte, took office as president.

However, protesters have taken to the streets in various cities across Peru, demanding early presidential elections. Dina Boluarte has announced that in accordance with the will of the people, she will be appealing to Congress in the coming days to initiate early general elections in April 2024.
