Serbian President Vucic Calls Emergency Meeting of National Security Council

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has called an emergency meeting of the National Security Council in the coming hours in response to the escalating situation in northern Kosovo.

In northern Kosovo, Serbian protesters have been blocking major roads for the second consecutive day following clashes with police at night that followed the arrest of a former Serbian police officer, amid rising tensions between the authorities and the Serbian minority in Kosovo, according to Reuters.

Today, trucks and other heavy equipment have continued to block several major roads leading to two border crossings with Serbia. Both crossings have been closed to traffic.

It is noteworthy that Serbian mayors from municipalities in northern Kosovo, along with local judges and around 600 police officers, resigned last month in protest against a government decision to replace vehicle license plates issued by Belgrade with those from Pristina.
