Famous Football Commentator Dies During World Cup in Qatar

American football commentator Grant Wahl has died while covering the quarter-final match of the World Cup in Qatar between the Netherlands and Argentina. NPR reports the news.

Last night, Argentina defeated the Netherlands (2:2 in regulation time, 0:0 in extra time, and 4:3 on penalties) and advanced to the semi-finals, where they will compete against Croatia.

The U.S. Soccer Federation expressed condolences for the death of the 48-year-old Wahl on Twitter.

Wahl was a columnist for Sports Illustrated and had also worked as a commentator for Fox Sports and CBS Sports. Earlier, the journalist reported that he fell ill while on his way to Qatar and visited a medical clinic, where doctors suspected he had bronchitis. He also mentioned that he had been taking antibiotics, which had not had the desired effect.
