VIDEO. 'It’s Despicable and Undeserving, It Would Be Better to Sit and Stay.' Lukashenko on Merkel

The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has criticized German Chancellor Angela Merkel for her comments regarding the Minsk agreements.

During the signing of the Minsk agreements in 2014, the intentions of Angela Merkel and Petro Poroshenko, who were then serving as Chancellor of Germany and President of Ukraine respectively, were serious in terms of resolving the conflict. This was stated by the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko.

Lukashenko responded to the former German Chancellor’s statement that the agreements reached in Minsk eight years ago were an attempt to give Ukraine time to prepare to 'become stronger.'

'Merkel’s position, like that of others, including Poroshenko, was very serious at that time. After the Minsk meetings, the whole world said that they had finally taken a step and signed these agreements, and people stopped dying,' said Lukashenko in response to a journalist's question.

According to the President of Belarus, if the leaders of Germany and Ukraine at the time 'were deceiving and preparing for war, that is despicable.'

'Merkel does not want to be accused today. You went with Hollande and misled Ukraine in the wrong direction. She is starting to justify herself. It’s despicable and undeserving, it would be better to sit and stay. In this way, she has erased everything she has done for Germany and the European Union. We took her seriously, but as you can see, we were mistaken. It turned out that she is low. Just as low as all the leaders of Europe today,' emphasized the President of Belarus.
