The Nagorno-Karabakh Issue has Become 'the Elephant in the Room' for Azerbaijan - Grigoryan

In the National Assembly, Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan stated that the Azerbaijani side's approaches do not allow for progress in the ongoing process. He emphasized that the Armenian side insists that the peace treaty, which should be a document summarizing the bilateral agenda of Armenia and Azerbaijan, should separate the issues of the rights and security of the Armenians living in Nagorno-Karabakh.

“Why has the Armenian side come to the conclusion that these issues should remain separated? Because when we had discussions in Washington, and more clarity was created regarding the establishment of an international mechanism, we expressed our approval for separating the issues. However, when there is no clarity regarding the international mechanism, this complicates the ability of the Armenian side to move forward regarding the peace treaty,” Grigoryan noted.

“Overall, Azerbaijan's approach, which claims that the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh is resolved, does not help advance this matter in any way. The Nagorno-Karabakh issue has become 'the elephant in the room' for Azerbaijan; that is, the problem exists, but they are trying to pretend that it does not,” he added.

Grigoryan stated that the Armenian side will continue efforts to ensure that the issues are separated.
