Putin on Additional Mobilization and the Restoration of the Death Penalty

There is no need for additional mobilization in Russia. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, as reported by RTVI.

According to him, of the 300,000 mobilized, only 77,000 are currently at the front lines. An additional 150,000 are undergoing further training in the Ministry of Defense's military training grounds and educational centers.

“In this situation, it makes no sense to discuss additional mobilization measures. There is no need for it from the state or the Ministry of Defense,” said Putin.

During a video conference with members of the Council for Civil Society and Human Rights Development, Putin also spoke about citizens who left the country after the announcement of partial mobilization. The Russian president remarked that this is a “separate topic” that requires extensive discussion and declined to assess the actions of the citizens who departed. “I don’t know, maybe someone thinks that this isn’t even their country anymore,” noted the head of state.

He also stated that his position on the possible revival of the death penalty in Russia remains unchanged. “I am against it,” he explained.

Putin promised the members of the Human Rights Council to end the practice of transporting individuals under investigation for non-violent crimes in shackles and to stop “obvious human rights violations” that manifest in the prolonged detention of suspects before trial in investigation isolation facilities.

The country’s leader specifically directed attention to the suspension of cooperation with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). According to him, Russian citizens can address the same issues to their “own Constitutional Court.”

Additionally, the meeting discussion addressed the widespread problem of fraud, which has resulted in Russians losing large sums from their bank accounts. Putin agreed that this issue needs to be resolved and stated that a “unified approach to returning the citizens' lost money must be developed.”
