Frozen Chicken Meat Sold Under the Guise of Fresh Meat: Complaint
Armenian producers are complaining about unequal conditions in the poultry market. Sergey Stepanyan, the president of the Union of Poultry Producers of Armenia, discussed this issue in an interview with NEWS.am.
He clarified that often frozen chicken meat from third countries, especially from Georgia, is not labeled as being from a third country and is sold under the guise of fresh meat. Local companies properly label their products, while a portion of imported meat does not.
“This creates unequal conditions. By the time the frozen meat reaches retail points, it is already being sold as fresh meat, even though frozen meat is cheaper by 100-150 drams (about 30 cents),” he emphasized.
An official from the Competition Protection Commission of Armenia, Ani Smbatyan, stated in an interview with the media that if producers are aware of specific cases of this phenomenon, they can file complaints and the commission will investigate them.
