EU Does Not Recognize Russian Passports Issued in Newly Annexed Regions, Abkhazia, and South Ossetia
The EU Council has confirmed its decision not to recognize Russian passports issued in occupied territories of Ukraine, as well as in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, according to Russian media reports.
“The Council has today endorsed the decision not to recognize Russian travel documents issued in Ukraine and Georgia. This also pertains to Russia’s recognition of the independence of Georgian territories, Abkhazia and South Ossetia,” the statement reads.
As reported by TASS, EU countries previously applied a similar practice in connection with Crimea in 2014.
