Azerbaijan Threatens to Demand Compensation: "Hraparak"

According to the newspaper "Hraparak", a meeting was held yesterday between the command staff of the Russian peacekeeping forces, located about 7 kilometers from Stepanakert in the village of Ivanyan (Khojalu), and representatives from the Azerbaijani side. Azerbaijani media claim these representatives are "experts sent to investigate and monitor the situation regarding the illegal exploitation of natural resources and its environmental consequences.”

Azerbaijan brought this issue to the forefront on December 3, closing the Lachin corridor, which reopened a few hours later. Azerbaijan is targeting the Kashen mining and processing plant, owned by the Vallex group of companies. Back in 2021, President Aliyev declared that Azerbaijan would demand compensation from companies that exploited mines in the territory of Artsakh and would file a lawsuit.

Now, Baku has taken concrete actions, posing both economic and political challenges for Artsakh. Photos show that the Secretary of the Security Council of Artsakh, Vitali Balasanyan, was present at the meeting. However, by late evening yesterday, the Artsakh Security Council had not issued any statement regarding this meeting.
