US May Drastically Cut Aid to Ukraine: What Concerns Does the Pentagon Have?
The Pentagon is concerned that military aid to Ukraine may be halted in the spring. This will happen if Congress approves a decision regarding the temporary funding of the government for the current fiscal year, reports Politico.
As a result, the capacity to provide assistance to Ukraine may be seriously limited. This includes ammunition and key systems for the modernization of the industrial base that are being transferred to the Kyiv regime.
The article notes that the decision could reduce the Department of Defense's funding by up to $29 billion or 3.7% of President Joe Biden's request for the 2023 fiscal year.
“The annual budget could delay the modernization of several key systems for the industrial base, including the Abrams tank and the M777 towed howitzer, which are the weapons that U.S. military personnel are transferring to Ukraine,” said Seligman.
This spring, Congress allocated approximately $40 billion to the administration for providing various forms of assistance to Kyiv, including military and economic support. In October, Biden signed a bill that would continue U.S. government funding until mid-December of this year, which includes $12.4 billion in new aid to Ukraine.
